Black Forest: The Place, Not the Gateux!

We made two trips to the Black Forest region. The initial trip was the exploratory one while the second one was with a special purpose; to purchase a specialty of this region got to offer! Black Forest brings specific things in mind. The pine forest, the hipped roof houses, and the name always associated with the famous "Blackforest" cake ( English name of  Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte  dessert ). Y et , some people do not know the Black Forest is indeed a beautiful and wild place in Germany, famous for its own  unique  specialties other than the cake itself! A breathtaking view of Black Forest with hipped roof houses and pine trees Typical view of Black Forest Black Forest is a mountainous at Southwestern of Germany bordering Swiss on the Northern side and can be easily accessible from Swiss through the Basel exit point (All exit points to Germany need to use Basel!). Black Forest: Triberg the World Biggest Cuckoo Clock

From Freiburg to Triber g Our first trip to Triberg was in 2007 when we continued our second day, from Freiburg, we headed for Triberg for a day trip and continued downward our journey to another famous town, Titisee. Triberg im Schwarzwald is a town in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, located in the Schwarzwald-Baar district in the Black Forest. Triberg lies in the middle of the Black Forest between 500 and 1038 metres above sea level. Along the way to Triberg, we made a lot of stops to take photos. The views were superb that our photographer cum the driver, can't resist the challenge.  Well, the fact this is supposed to be a leisure ride so no issue la kan. Unfortunately, later on, we were caught in a massive traffic jam around 5km with all the huge trucks and cars queue narrowly along the treacherous road.  The road was so curvy, small and steep compared to the Karak Highway!  View along the way to Triberg A short stop View of Black Forest

Black Forest: Freiburg "Jewel of the Black Forest"

Freiburg Our first day in Black Forest was at Freiburg where we visited the Old Town and headed to the mountain area of Schauinsland.  Freiburg im Breisgau is located near the city of Baden, Germany on the southwest of Germany. The city is situated in the heart of the major Baden wine-growing region and serves as the primary tourist entry point to the scenic beauty of the Black Forest.  Freiburg The city has an unusual system of gutters (called Freiburg Bächle) that run throughout its centre. These Bächle, once used to provide water to fight fires and feed livestock, are constantly flowing with water diverted from the Dreisam. During the summer, the running water provides natural cooling of the air, and offers a pleasant gurgling sound.  Very soothing indeed! We arrived at Freiburg around 1pm and checked in at Etap Hotel near Z.I. Freiburg. Etap Hotel is one of the network of budget hotels in Europe.  It is quite cheap since we just have to fork out 49 Euro per night.
